The Bent Spoon in Princeton, New Jersey, is a small shop in the quaint Palmer Square shopping district near Princeton University.
While most of the ice cream shops I visited in New Jersey had standard flavors, The Bent Spoon was one of the few with playful concoctions like lavender mascarpone, strawberry chamomile or Jersey sweet corn. The owners, Gabrielle Carbone and Matthew Errico, use a lot of local ingredients, especially from area farms.
On our visit, we tried a few flavors, our favorite being the blueberry mascarpone with its creamy consistency and fresh flavor.
Today was a gorgeous day to be out and about, so I went to the Brooklyn Flea’s Ice Cream Bonanza in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. I sampled ice cream from many vendors: honey lavender from Luca & Bosco, salted caramel from Fort Grace, Thai from Odd Fellows, mole from La Newyorkina, banana whama and coconut key lime from Phin & Phebes, Old Bay corn from The Bent Spoon and sweet as honey and ooey gooey butter cake from Ample Hills. My favorite was the ooey gooey butter cake from Ample Hills. This was seriously delicious ice cream!
