New Jersey Ice Cream, Day 4: Magnifico’s Ice Cream, East Brunswick, NJ

Magnifico’s Ice Cream is on Route 18, one of those lovely New Jersey roads where you can’t make a left turn and have to go a mile out of your way to make a U-turn.  BUT, the ice cream is worth the frustration of a New Jersey highway.  Magnifico’s was opened in 1981 by Gary Magnifico and gets high marks as a New Jersey favorite.

If you like soft ice cream and sundaes, this is your place.  They have many flavors and toppings, as well as egg cream and shakes.  (I always wonder who these people are who order milk shakes at ice cream shops?)  I couldn’t resist ordering a cherry-dipped vanilla cone.  I’m glad too, because this was one of the best I’ve ever had.

Ice Cream Monday

OK, Sweets Week is over, but National Ice Cream Month isn’t!  On every Monday in July, I’m going to feature some yummy ice cream or frozen treat!

Today’s ice cream comes from an unlikely place, a chocolate shop.  Vosges Haut Chocolat is probably my favorite chocolate shop.  The flavors are exquisite, and the chocolate just melts on your tongue.  Well, a few of those wonderful flavors are also available as ice cream!  Their popular chocolate Naga®–sweet Indian curry + coconut +41% deep milk chocolate is one of my favorites.  Now, they have Naga curry and coconut soft-serve ice cream.  And it’s creamy and delicious.  The flavors are subtle, so if you’re afraid of curry in ice cream, don’t be!  This is one of the most delicious ice creams I’ve had in a while.  And the waffle cones are made in house, and they, too, are delicious.

Two for Tuesday: Kitchen Gadgets

Hamilton Beach’s soft serve ice cream maker for one.  Yes, when I saw this product, I had to get it because I love homemade ice cream and want a product that rations how much of it I eat.  I tried to make homemade ice cream using this product, but it remained liquid.  I made frozen yogurt with Greek yogurt and that was creamy and good.

Dressing-2-Go is a small container to hold salad dressing or a sauce to accompany your lunch.  It’s soft and flexible silicone.  I think this is a great idea because I’m always worried dressing will leak out of any kind of container I put it in.  Plus, I want something small so I have just the right amount.
