The best ice cream in New Jersey is, of course, subjective. New Jersey is a great state for an ice cream fan. There are so many places to try. I sampled ice cream from eleven different ice cream shops around the state and have chosen my top three and listed what stands out the most to me about the shop.
- Denville Dairy in Denville, NJ–the creamiest soft-serve ice cream.
- Magnifico’s in East Brunswick, NJ–best cherry-dipped cone.
- Cookman Creamery in Asbury Park, NJ–delicious vegan options.
Magnifico’s Ice Cream is on Route 18, one of those lovely New Jersey roads where you can’t make a left turn and have to go a mile out of your way to make a U-turn. BUT, the ice cream is worth the frustration of a New Jersey highway. Magnifico’s was opened in 1981 by Gary Magnifico and gets high marks as a New Jersey favorite.
If you like soft ice cream and sundaes, this is your place. They have many flavors and toppings, as well as egg cream and shakes. (I always wonder who these people are who order milk shakes at ice cream shops?) I couldn’t resist ordering a cherry-dipped vanilla cone. I’m glad too, because this was one of the best I’ve ever had.
