New Taste of the Upper West Side is this weekend, May 18 & 19, 2012. The festival celebrates the chefs and restaurants of the Upper West Side. Co-hosting Comfort Classics (on Friday night, chefs recreate classic dishes) this year are Adam Richman, host of Travel Channel’s Man v. Food and Andrew Zimmern, host of Travel Channel’s Bizarre Foods. Gael Greene is this year’s Best of the West (on Saturday, area chefs showcase their signature dishes) Honoree. Participating chefs include James Beard winner Christina Tosi, Jean-Georges Vongerichten, Daniel Boulud, Michael Lomonaco, Eric Bromberg, Jesus Nunez, Jacques Torres, and many others. Funds from the event benefit the Columbus Avenue Business Improvement District and will go towards projects for improvements in the neighborhood. The Best of the West VIP tickets are sold out, so act fast if you want tickets. I attended the event last year, and it is a great time. The chefs are accessible, so it’s a great opportunity to compliment your favorites.
